Gede Pahing and his wife have 2 children:

  • Child I: Luh Mei / F / class 1 SD
  • Child II: Dek Ayu / F / 3 years, not yet in school

Gede Pahing also lives with his two half-siblings (different mother), his father has died four years ago, his stepmother (Ketut Suriani / 34) working in Denpasar sells means of praying (ceper, canang, etc.), in holiday his stepmother will come home to visit her children who live with Gede Pahing as follows:

  • Gede Juliantara / M/ 5th grade elementary school
  • Komang Arnana / M / 1st grade elementary school

Gede Pahing takes care of all living expenses including the tuition fees of his half siblings.

His son and 2 younger siblings go to a school which is about 1 km away from his home, Gede Pahing takes all 3 children to school and they all walk back home for 40-50 minutes.

Source of income:

  • Gede Pahing works to make tuak (fermented drink from palm tree) with gross income Rp. 50,000 per day, the income is divided by 2 with the land owner @ Rp. 25.000, in 1 month he can work to make tuak as much as 15 times.
  • His wife works to collect rice; picking up grains of rice in the remaining rice harvest, in 1 day she can get about 4 kg of rice grains (about 1.5 kg of rice) to eat / not to sell. This work can only be done during the harvest season, if it is not harvesting season – she babysit the children at home or sometimes work as casual laborers if there is work.
  • Gede Pahing has not received rice for the poor aid (Raskin) from the government.

Cost of living:

  • Free school tuition fee. Pay for clothes and book once a year or when necessary.
  • Pocket money for 1 child + 2 younger brother Rp. 5,000 per child per day

Home conditions: road access to the location of the house is a road that has been cemented on the edge of rice fields, must walk or can be on a motorcycle.

  • Number of bedrooms: 1, size of 2 rooms made into 1 room
  • Number of cots / bed: no cot, all sleeping on the floor
  • Number of mattresses: 1 good mattress + 1 mattress already thin
  • The room floor is the ground, terrace floor of cement
  • The walls of bamboo and used banners, the back wall is broken
  • Roof from asbestos
  • Electricity exists
  • No water, looking for water near his home
  • Land status: as a cultivator
