Ketut Sukaning lives with her grandfather and grandmother, her father has died, her mother has remarried. Her younger sister (F/7 years/1st grade elementary school) is looked after by her Uncle & Aunt whose house is in front of her grandfather’s house, still in the same yard.

The location of her school (SDN 3 Gerokgak) is quite far from her house. Ketut goes to school every day by walking for 30-40 minutes.

Source of income:

  • Her grandfather couldn’t work because he was old and sick (short of breath).
  • Her grandmother raises 4 cows belong to her neighbor. She has income only if she sells the cows.
  • They regularly receive rice assistance from the government.

Cost of living:

  • Free school tuition fees. Ketut pays for uniforms and books once a year or as necessary.
  • School pocket money: Rp. 2,000 per day
