Men Sukarai lived with an old woman who was her relative, in a box at approximately 2.5 x 2.5 meters, which is a part of a pigsty. This small box is used as a bed for 2 people as well as the kitchen, which is separated by only a 1 meter wall next to the pig’s box.
Both of them had no biological family anymore. They lived in their relatives’ pigsty.
Men Sukarai’s daily work was as a scavenger around the village area and also as a porter in the market. She got income only on the “market’s day” which were three days a week, at 20.000 to 30.000 Rupiah.
The assistance which were expected to ease the burden of these old women, could be in form of food; clothing; any kind of assistance for a better home; etc.
