Ni Putu Intan lives together with her grandmother who is old and in poor health condition. Her father had passed away before she was born meanwhile her mother has remarried and now live in Denpasar.

The school is located about 5 kilometers from her house. She goes to school with help from her neighbors who own motorcycle and she goes back home walking.

Source of Income:

  • Her grandmother; Men Gari who is too old for doing hard work, work as a rain-fed farmer. In a year, there is only one time cropping season. She plants cassava, corn etc to use as food supply during dry season instead of selling it. Because of the dry land condition that consists of limestone, she can’t plant during the dry season.
  • If there is a demand, she also works as farm workers with wages Rp. 40.000 per day. In a month, she can work about five times.
  • If there is no work around, she makes porosan (ceremony equipment) to sell. In a month, she can sell porosan worth Rp. 25.000.
  • Men Gari received government help through rice for the poor program. She got 4,5 kilograms rice per month at the price of Rp.1.600 per kilogram.

Living cost:

  • School fee is free. Uniform and book expenses only paid once a year or when necessary.
  • Putu Intan’s pocket money Rp. 3.000 per day
