    Hello Kadek

I am writing to let you know about the visit I made to Gede Agus in Sibetan village last month. I met Gede and his grandfather on February 11th. I delivered a parcel of food items such as rice, oil for cooking, as well as personal care items such as soaps, toothpaste, shampoo, band aids etc. Also a bundle of educational materials, pens, pencils and exercise books. BCC volunteer Pak Wayan Sudarsana and also a neighbour (I think) were present as well. After the first meeting I returned the following Saturday and checked inside Gedes kitchen for electricity, gas for cooking and Kitchen utensils. I also was shown inside the other dwellings.

Gede then went out with me (and Nyoman the driver, who assisted me with communications) to purchase some kitchen utensils that he needed plus 3 pillows for himself and his grandfather. Then a third quick visit on the Monday to drop off a knife and large spoon.

I didn’t bring up the subject of a bicycle as it did seem to me that it might not help and could just be a distraction. We talked and I asked him what his hopes for the future were. He indicated that he really liked mathematics.

Although he said he felt well, I noticed on our second meeting both he and his grandfather were slightly unwell with a cough. Gedes grandfather is quite frail but still physically active.

Gede seems to be managing ok with the donor money that he is currently receiving and at the time was not drawing it out but saving it for an emergency.

On the second visit I was shown inside the dwellings and could see that one of them has a serious leak in the roof. Water is damaging the structure of the building. The roof does need replacing. I was told that it could be possible to construct a metal roof with a coconut wood or bamboo frame as a low cost solution. Gede may have an uncle that could do the build for him which would also be a good way for Gede to observe or assist and so develop house maintenance skills as well. I would be interested in making a contribution towards the cost of materials for this. All three dwellings will need the roof replaced but the most urgent is the one that I have photos for below.

Anyway I look forward to consideration being given to this idea and await your reply.

    Terima Kasih
    Ibu Denise

@Denise. Thank you for your report, and also for the many donations you gave to Gede and his grandfather. Regarding the roof replacement, we have to visit Gede to check the house current condition so that we could make recommendations. Yet, we are not sure when we can visit him in April, maybe on the 2nd week of April. Thanks again for your great support. Kadek
