Ni Wayan Sare is never married. She lives by herself in a very narrow hut. The condition of the hut is very bad; no floor, the floor is the ground itself, the wall of the hut is just some pieces of dried coconut leaves and bamboo, the roof is also just some pieces of dried coconut leaves and plastic which are arranged so it can function as a shelter, there’s no bed, she sleeps on dry coconut leaves covered by a thin carpet. There is no electricity and no water. She has to go to her nephew to get some hygienic water.
To fulfill her daily needs, Ni Wayan Sare often helps her neighbor to make Banten (Balinese offerings as medium to pray), Canang (Balinese daily offering), or Porosan (It’s part of a canang, made from betel nut and lime covered with betel leaf), “I am given a glass of rice a day”, she said in Balinese. She also often feels an ache, especially on her feet.
