A Visit to Several Poor Residents in the Kabupaten of Jembrana

On 26 February we visited a number of residents in several villages in the Kabupaten of Jembrana, as follows:

  1. Ni Wayan Merti (female, 75); Ni Wayan is old, blind and crippled and lives with her younger sibling, Ni Komang Melekani (female, 70) who is also unwell and has trouble walking. They live in Banjar Kebebeng, Desa Mendoyo Dangin Tukad, Jembrana. To fulfill their everyday needs, Ni Komang Melekani makes small religious offerings for sale. Relatives and neighbours also often provide help. They have received help in repairing their house from the government.
  2. Ni Ketut Madri (female, 78) and her younger sister Ni Ketut Mandri (female, 70); 2 elderly and poor sisters in Banjar Sawe Rangsasa, Kelurahan Dauh Waru, Jembrana.
  3. Ni Nengah Wendri (female, 70); a poor elderly woman who has had a stroke in Banjar Sawe Rangsasa, Kelurahan Dauh Waru, Jembrana.
  4. Putu Wiyasa (male, 40); a poor and disabled man in Banjar Pendem, Desa Pendem, Kecamatan Negara, Jembrana. He has received some housing support from the local government.
  5. Ni Ketut Mesni (female, 85); an old, poor and crippled woman in Banjar Peh, Desa Kaliakah, Kecamatan Negara, Jembrana. This woman fell from her bed a year and a half ago and dislocated her hip. She can only sit and lie down. She is cared for by her children and other family members living in the same compound.
  6. Ni Nyoman Nandri (female, about 75); a poor elderly woman in Banjar Peh, Desa Kaliakah, Kecamatan Negara, Jembrana. Her husband is dead. She is cared for by children and other family members living in the same compound. 
  7. I Nyoman Teler (male, in his 70s); a poor elderly man with a hernia in Banjar Banyubiru Kauh, Desa Banyubiru, Kecamatan Negara, Jembrana. This man can only sleep. To sit he needs assistance. He is cared for by his children and other family members who live in the same compound.
  8. Ni Ketut Kamarini (female, 38); a poor woman in Banjar Banyubiru Kauh, Desa Banyubiru, Kecamatan Negara, Jembrana. Her right hand was severed when she was electrocuted while repairing her TV antenna in 2014.
  9. Mohammad Yatin (male, about 80) and his wife (female, in her 70s); and elderly and sick couple. Their 6 children are all dead as are their spouses. They care for their 2 orphaned grandchildren. They live in Banjar Banyubiru, Desa Banyubiru, Kecamatan Negara, Jembrana.

During our visit to the various villages, we were able to distribute assistance from donors as follows:

  • Cash assistance of 250,000 Rupiah from Ibu Dewi Karmawan to each of: Ni Wayan Merti, Ni Ketut Madri, Ni Nyoman Nandri, dan I Nyoman Teler.
  • Cash assistance of 250,000 Rupiah from Bapak Lukman Usman & Ibu Lia to Mohammad Yatim.
  • A wheelchair from Ibu Santi Gunawan to Putu Wiyasa.
