Komang’s grandparents did not have children, they adopted a child. His adopted son (Komang’s Father) later married and had 2 children;

  1. Ni Kadek Wulan Rani Agustin (F/16 years old/second grade in high school)
  2. I Komang Trija Sukmana (M/10 years old/4th grade in elementary school)

Komang’s father died, and his mother remarried. Komang and his sister were then raised by his grandparents. His grandfather’s eyes have been blind for 21 years due to cataracts, his grandmother’s eyes are also nearsighted.

When we visited them, there were only Komang Trija and his grandfather at home, while his sister and grandmother were in the garden.

Source of income:

  • His grandfather couldn’t work because his eyes were totally blind, he could only make Porosan (for Balinese offerings) to sell for Rp. 5,000 per day (only if there is an order from his neighbor).
  • His grandmother worked as a rainfed garden farmer, planting/harvesting only once a year, namely during the rainy season, during the dry season they could not cultivate crops due to dry/barren soil conditions. Komang’s sister sometimes helps her grandmother with gardening after school.

Cost of living:

  • Free school tuition. Pay clothes and book fees once a year or if necessary.
  • Pocket money: Rp. 3,000 – 5,000 per person per day, if they don’t have money – no pocket money for school

House condition:

  • Number of bedroom: 2
  • Number of bed divan: 2
  • Number of mattresses: 2
  • Cement floor
  • Concrete walls
  • Asbestos roof
  • Electricity is available
  • They ask the neighbors for water
  • Land status: own property
