The orphanage which is located at Jalan Tunjung Sari No. 23, Padangsambian Kaja, West Denpasar was founded by Bp. Made Meja, a former member of Denpasar DPRD from 1999-2004. In addition, he also worked as an educator. Made Meja saw children who were outstanding but could not continue their schooling due to the economic condition of their families.
“Bapak Made Meja, the founder of the orphanage, witnessed many children from underprivileged families unable to go to school, so in 2001 the Sunya Giri Orphanage was founded,” said Ketut Alit Rahadiana, the administrator of Sunya Giri Orphanage. The aim is to increase the potential and human resources of Hindu children, especially those from underprivileged families, in order to get a proper education.
Until now, Sunya Giri Orphanage has 26 children. Consists of children who are currently studying at the SD, SMP, and SMK levels. Since the aim of Sunya Giri Orphanage focuses on the education of underprivileged children, not all of its foster children are orphans.
