I Nengah Kerti his wife Ni Nengah Sari with their 2 children lived in a house on the hill of Tiyingtali Village, Abang, Karangasem.To fulfill his family needs, Nengah Kerti worked as menial worker; sometimes he worked as a banana planter, cows and pigs carrier, firewood splitter, building materials carrier, etc, depending on the available work, sometimes he got not job at all.
His wife, Ni Nengah Sari had been paralyzed for so long, she cannot work anymore. Meanwhile, his two children were mentally retarded, both didn’t attend school, and cannot help their parents that much. Nengah Kerti also raised a cow, a government’s donation.
