I Komang Mula and his wife, Ni Komang Sari, have 3 daughters, namely:
- Ni Wayan Karniasih (female / aged 13 / Class 1 SMP)
- Ni Kadek Cintawati (female / aged 8 / Class 3 SD – Primary School)
- Ni Komang Lianawati (female / aged 2½)
I Komang Mula works as a labourer carting wood, and his income is about 400,000 Rupiah per month. His wife tends the cows of a neighbor and collects firewood however her income is not regular. Because of the very low income of the family, Ni Wayan Karniasih (the eldest daughter, aged 13, Class 1 SMP) works as a labourer on drain-building projects in her village. “I get about 30,000 Rupiah per day and I work 3 or 4 times a month, depending on the stage of the project “, she told us in Balinese.
The state of their dwelling is a cause for concern; the floor is made of earth, the walls are of woven bamboo and wood sheets, the roof is tiled. The kitchen and the bed are all in the same room. There is only one bed for all 5 members of the family. There is no mattress and no pillows.
